Dream of home ownership alive and well in Ontario

But majority of Ontarians concerned that home ownership will be more difficult in the future Collingwood, April 26, 2011 – A poll released today by the Georgian Triangle Real Estate Board revealed that the dream of home ownership is alive and well among Ontario renters with a significant majority (70%) reporting that they would like to buy at some point in the future. Home Sales ease in January

Residential sales activity recorded through the MLS® System of the REALTORS® Association of Grey Bruce Owen Sound was down from year-ago levels in January 2011. Home sales numbered 89 units in January 2011, a decline of 14 per cent from a year earlier. Total sales numbered 114 units, 12 per cent less than in January 2010. Cedars Cottage Resort has New Owners

Husband and wife team, Gary and Pippa Gingras are the excited new proprietors of Cedars Cottage Resort. The couple took over the resort March 1st and have some big plans for the future. Cedars Resort has been a part of the Lake Eugenia landscape since the 1940’s. It is a beautiful quiet family oriented resort located on the eastern shore of the lake. Changes to the Mortgage Rules

The government today announced three loan financing changes designed to address concerns about increasing levels of household debt. First, the government will reduce the maximum mortgage amortization period from 35 to 30 years. Second, the maximum amount of the value of a home that can be re-financed will drop from 90 per cent to 85 per cent. And finally, government insurance will no longer be available to financial institutions wishing to insure home equity lines of credit. It is important to note, the government did not increase the minimum downpayment, which was under consideration. 4th Quarter and Year Statistics for the Georgian Traingle Real Estate Board

Area Real Estate Sales: Fourth Quarter Down; Year Up Area real estate sales reported through the MLS® system of the Georgian Triangle Real Estate Board (GTREB) slowed in the fourth quarter of 2010 vs the same quarter last year. The Bank of Canada again maintained its benchmark overnight rate during this quarter at 1.00% reflecting the Bank’s view that the economic recovery in Canada is proceeding at a moderate pace, with economic activity in the second half of 2010 appearing slightly weaker than the Bank has projected in it’s October Monetary Policy Report. Home Sales down, Average Price up in November

Residential sales activity recorded throughthe MLS® System of the REALTORS® Association of Grey Bruce Owen Sound was down from year-ago levels in November 2010, while the average price of those sales set a new record. I had the privilege to attend a presentation by John Wright–Senior Vice President, Ipsos Reid where he shared some of his companies recent findings on what people were thinking and feeling regarding our current economy.   The recession may be over in the economist assessment but people in Ontario are still are feeling anxious. -24 % of the people are anxious about employment -only 12%  of the public feel tax payer’s money is spent wisely - people feel like it is 1994-95 , they are conservative on spending, want to pay down debt and want value for their dollar 56% of Ontarions believe HST applies to resale homes. Home Sales Edge Up in October

  Residential sales activity recorded through the MLS® System of the REALTORS® Association of Grey Bruce Owen Sound came in well below year-ago levels in October 2010, but this was largely due to the record month of October last year. Activity edged up on a seasonally adjusted basis compared to the previous month, building on the gain in September. Home sales numbered 183 units in October 2010. This is down 18 per cent from October 2009, which was one of the strongest months on record. On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales were up three per cent from the previous month.
